I run workshops as one-day introductory classes in woodcut or linocut printmaking and also, in simple bookbinding techniques.
In a printmaking class you will learn how to turn your drawings or photographs into distinctive personal images. The sessions will cover design and cutting, texture, printing and other technical aspects.
One of the simplest printmaking processes, that require only a few tools but offers a wide range of results, is wood and linocut. The basic principle of relief printing is that the white areas of the design are cut away from the block and the areas that are left are inked up and printed.
Woodcut is similar in technique to linocut, however it differs in style and especially surface quality. The surface mark being influenced by the natural marks and patterns in the wood itself, which become integrated into the overall design.
I can also arrange to do follow-up days in wood and linocut workshops for printing in more than one colour.

During the bookbinding workshop you will learn how to make several books, using the Japanese stab binding method and pamphlet stitch, which you can take away
with you. These adaptable bindings can be used to make your own journals, sketchbooks and notebooks.
For those practitioners wishing to expand their existing techniques it's an opportunity to experiment and for those with no previous experience, it's a supportive environment in which to start. Materials and use of tools are provided.
The workshops run from 9.30 - 4.00 The fee is £50 for the day.
Maximum number of students is 6.
